Change in Initiation Fee

At the Board of Trustess meeting on September 16, 2007, the one-time/life-time membership fee was increased to $50. New members to Alpha Sigma Mu will receive certificate of membership, an engraved key, and a braided cord and tassel that can be worn at ceremonial occasions.

HOW TO RECOMMEND STUDENTS FOR REGULAR MEMBERSHIP

 

1.     The Chapter may recommend candidates for election to Regular Membership either at its Annual Meeting in April or May or at any meeting called for the purpose of selecting membership candidates. Candidates are recommended by the Chapter Secretary to the Board of Trustees on the basis of a two-thirds (2/3) affirmative vote of the chapter student members and the unanimous vote of all faculty Alpha Sigma Mu members present at the meeting.

 

2.     Prior to the meeting a membership committee, composed of a chairman, two (2) other members shall be appointed by the Chapter President to nominate qualified candidates for submission to the chapter membership for election to membership in the society. The faculty advisor shall prepare a list of scholastically qualified candidates to the chapter membership committee for consideration.

 

a.     Qualifications of Undergraduate Students: To be eligible for election as a Regular Member, an undergraduate student shall be of Junior or Senior status, shall have completed at least nine semester credit hours, or the equivalent in his/her major area, and shall have attended the approved college or university for at least two full quarters or one semester. He/she shall be in the cumulative upper one-third (1/3) scholastically of all students working toward a degree in the pertinent curriculum or degree-granting unit.

 

b.     Qualifications of Graduate Students: To be eligible for membership as a Regular Member, a graduate student must have completed at least nine semester hours or the equivalent at the graduate level and must meet the qualities listed in Section 2(a) of Article III of the Alpha Sigma Mu Constitution.

 

3.     Upon election by a local chapter, or recommendation by a faculty member who is him/herself a member of Alpha Sigma Mu where no local chapter exists, completed Recommendation for Election to Regular Membership forms and one check in the amount of $50.00 per candidate shall be forwarded to:

4.     In order to streamline the operations of Alpha Sigma Mu, the processing of Recommendations for Election to Regular Membership will be done on the first of the following months: January, March and September. Please allow four to six weeks for the certificates and keys to be sent to the chapter.

 

5.     Membership certificates and keys will be sent to Chapter Faculty Advisors for distribution to the new members at the initiation ceremony.
